These are the Professional Development offerings for the 2017 - 18 school year. Details and links will be added as they become available.
All workshops are administered by the California Department of Education (CDE) in collaboration with the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) and in consultation with the California Private School Advisory Committee (CPSAC). These professional development opportunities are made possible through state-level federal Title II Part A (Equitable Services) grant funds, and there is no cost to attendees.
K–6: Revitalize Critical and Inventive Thinking for Student Engagement Using Thinking Routines
Weave thinking routines into the fabric of your classroom’s culture to get students to think critically about the content you teach. Educational expert Dedra Stafford suggests creative approaches to teaching routines that stimulate innovative thinking and guide classroom discussion. Find out how to integrate them into your day and in a variety of settings. Move your students beyond simple responses and inspire them to extend ideas, think divergently, reason logically, and become active investigators.
This workshop will be followed up by a series of three webinars per grade level throughout the school year.

Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning: Who Has Time for That? You Do! Make learning real and meaningful through Project Based Learning in your classroom! Learn the essentials of true Project Based Learning and how to plan for authentic instruction. Lori will share some of her favorite Project Based Units and tips on how to manage a Project Based Classroom.
This topic will be presented in one full-day workshops for each grade span, followed by a series of three follow-up webinars for each grade span. The webinars will be approximately 5-6 weeks apart from each other.
This workshop will be followed up by a series of three webinars throughout the school year.

Formative Assessment Institute
This workshop/webcast series will allow teachers/administrators to develop and implement a comprehensive formative assessment program to improve student learning and teacher practice in their schools/classrooms. The multiple-day format will provide participants with a face-to-face opportunity to learn and practice aspects of formative assessment, then return for two full debriefings and new, deeper learnings.
Three follow-up webcasts will be presented to help teachers and administrators deepen their implementation of workshop concepts. Subject-matter specialists will be available to address content-specific questions from the participants at each webinar as well as during the third workshop.

This workshop is for general and special educators interested in supporting their students with special needs in all classroom settings. The workshop has two components:
1. Understanding and Knowing Your Students
- Creating an inclusive learning culture
- Understanding learning differences
- Social-emotional learning strategies
- Behavioral strategies for supporting students with disabilities
2. Instructional Planning and Support
- Learning targets, goals, and measurable objectives
- Universal design and differentiated instruction
- Progress monitoring and multi-tiered system of support
- Collaborative practices for teachers
There will be a one-day workshop in three locations (Los Angeles, Irvine, and Northern CA) with a follow-up webinar following each workshop.

Technology for Administrators: Facilitating the Journey toward Technology Integration
Technology Support for Administrators will consist of three unique webinar series. Each series will have four webinars throughout the year.
1. Online Workshop: Challenge and Change
- Explore common and shared challenges, beliefs, and mindsets about technology integration.
- Discuss existing professional growth models and autonomous learning opportunities for teachers that support technology integration.
- Identify teacher and student outcomes for the successful integration of technology.

2. Online Workshop: Practices for Capacity Building
- Reflect on successful practices that are being used to build teacher capacity for technology integration.
- Learn about existing models for technology training and support.
- Strategize about how technology integration can be linked to other key initiatives.
Webinar dates: April 9, 10, and 11 from 4 - 6 PM
3. Online Workshop: Strategic Planning for Success
- Address core beliefs that support technology.
- Identify the key stakeholder interests and create linkages.
- Plan technology integration strategies that support the strategic priorities and implement them at the school or district level.
Webinar dates: May 22, 23, 24 from 4 - 6 PM
4. Online Community/Webinar to Support Implementation
- Arrange two one-hour online community meetings to help administrators with sustaining the changes necessary for deeper implementation.
