Professional Development for California Nonprofit Private School Educators

Professional Development for California Nonprofit, Private School Educators is provided by Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) through a contract with the California Department of Education (CDE).  The program provides statewide professional development services using funds provided by Title II, Part A of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Working in collaboration with the CDE and with consultation with the private school community, the SCOE team mission is to plan and implement high quality workshops and other professional learning opportunities that meet the needs of teachers and administrators in California's nonprofit, private schools.

Why does the CDE fund professional development services for private schools?

The ESEA mandates that every State and local school district consult annually with officials of nonprofit private schools in a process known as private school consultation to provide federally funded services for students and educators of nonprofit, private schools. The CDE first convened a group of representatives of nonprofit private schools for this purpose more than 20 years ago. Today, the CDE and the consultative body still conduct statewide needs assessments and collaborate to provide professional development workshops targeted to the priority needs of nonprofit, private school teachers and administrators. We're more excited than ever to offer you high quality professional development based on scientifically based research! Consistent with the federal law, all workshops and professional learning opportunities will be sustained, intensive, and classroom-focused to support nonprofit, private school educators and principals in helping students meet challenging academic standards.
